Alek Schroeder
Wheel Throwing
My interest in clay started back in middle school in Cambridge when I was watching my longtime friend, Ric Lamore, throwing pots. It was mesmerizing to see and I knew I had to find a way to get my hands on the potter's wheel. I took a tour at Rowe Pottery and at that point I was hooked.
Once I was in high school I took all the ceramics classes offered at Cambridge, and everything I could at Madison College after that. In 2015 I was fortunate enough to be able to start working as a potter at Ephraim Pottery in Lake Mills, and have been loving every minute of it since. While teaching wheel throwing I have found great enjoyment in helping others learn, and can't wait to find that with more people!

Jeanette Clawson
Mixed Media, Zentangle
I create art to contribute to peace and beauty in the world and in myself by including flow and play as critical components of my creative process. Environmentalism strongly impacts my work, and I enjoy finding new uses for old things, particularly books and many kinds of paper. Flowers and other botanicals are my main sources of inspiration, particularly in the intersection of nature and geometry. I carve my own rubber stamps to create repeating patterns and focal points, paint papers in many different ways, apply the Zentangle Method of drawing and play with acrylic paint and many different adhesives to create rich, layered pieces of art. Teaching art allows me to share my joy in the process of creation. I love to see how people interpret what I share and I'm so inspired by my students. Making art is usually a solitary practice and I love making art in community with others. Teaching is such a rewarding social interaction.
Erin Ehlert-Maddocks
Needle Felting
Hello! My name is Erin and I have been stabbing wool since 2018.
The first, and only, needle felting class I took was right here in Cambridge. I quickly fell in love with the art and found it to be very therapeutic. I also loved that it was such a forgiving art form.
I now teach needle felting classes in various cities in the area as well as my store, The Wood and Wool Shop, located in Jefferson, WI.
A little about myself...
I was born and raised in Racine and while I enjoyed art, I embraced my athletic talents during my school years...track and field, basketball, powerlifting, volleyball and taekwondo.
It wasn't until my mid 20's that I started to discover my creative side again. I was influenced by (late) husband, Tim, and my children to explore knitting, woodworking, crafting and painting.
Fast forward a bit, I now live in Cambridge with my husband, Dan, and our 4 children.
Between kids, sports, scouts, the shop and classes, we stay pretty active...that's probably why I enjoy needle felting so much! The repetitive stabbing of wool is oddly therapeutic, even the noise is soothing!
But don't take my word for it, try it out for yourself!
I look forward to getting stabby with you!
Emily Schroeder
Watercolor
A former MMSD elementary school teacher, Emily started painting mid-pandemic as a way to destress after a long day in the classroom. Since then, she has turned her love for watercolors into a career. Emily finds inspiration from her time living in Guadalajara, Mexico as well as her childhood in Wisconsin. In addition to botanical watercolors, she also enjoys painting pet portraits. As a current resident of Madison, Wisconsin, she teaches watercolor classes and workshops throughout Dane County. Most recently, she creates watercolor kits so that everyone has access to the magic of watercolors from the comfort of their own home. Emily continues to give back to her community by donating a portion of the proceeds of her “Paint your Pet” nights to local pet rescues as well as donating watercolor kits to local chemotherapy centers.

Chris is a Wisconsin native and has lived with her family and worked in southeast Wisconsin her whole life. Chris is married to Hank Steinmiller, has one daughter, two stepchildren, five grandchildren and two dogs. She had a long career in banking and after retiring, and has been focusing on her painting. Janet Nelson
Acrylics
I grew up on a farm in SE Wisconsin and lived all over the US as a military wife. A printmaking course at Carroll College inspired me to “do art”. Working at an art supply shop allowed me to try a variety of mediums. I left retail to do art fairs and commercial/residential murals and faux finishing, gallery representation and art licensing.
Moving to the east coast gave me the opportunity for instruction with Al Staszesky who taught Painting in the Loper tradition. “Color next to color and paint the color you see” I like to add— “It’s just paint. Be bold with your brush”.
Roann Mathias
Watercolor and Paper Marbling
I am an artist and educator who is experienced in a variety of media including abstract painting, photography, watercolor, and lettering. My career in art began with calligraphy and lettering. For 15 years I created professional greeting card designs using calligraphy. My work was published in Somerset Studio Magazine, Letter Arts Review and Cloth Paper Scissors magazine. I taught calligraphy and mixed media workshops for several years all over the US and Canada. After receiving an MFA in 2015, I become an adjunct art history professor at a local community college. I love teaching because it gives me the chance to share my knowledge of art techniques. Being in the classroom energizes me and I hope that feeling is conveyed to my students.

Sally Koehler
Paper Arts
I love to teach! It is a wonderful experience for me to teach new skills to students and get them excited about making art! The work that students make inspires me to make my own art.
Experiences in my life, especially the busy life I lead with my family, are often the foundation of ideas for my work. I am proud to call Fort Atkinson my home and to share my talents in the surrounding communities. I enjoy working with handmade paper, mixed media and natural materials to create handmade books, journals, cards and collages. I also paint and create concrete mosaic sculptures. As a life-long learner, I am always interested in exploring new techniques and especially enjoy collaborating on projects.
